SFHA: don’t jeopardise transition to rapid rehousing

SFHA warns Scottish Government not to jeopardise transition to rapid rehousing by introducing changes to unsuitable accommodation orders prematurely.

SFHA has warned the Scottish Government not to jeopardise the transition to rapid rehousing by introducing changes to unsuitable accommodation orders prematurely.

Responding to the Scottish Government’s consultation on temporary accommodation and unsuitable accommodation orders, SFHA highlighted that given the scale of the change process that local authorities and their partners are being asked to complete in relation to the rapid rehousing transition plans, placing further pressure on frontline and strategic services could undermine the whole endeavour.

Zhan McIntyre, SFHA Policy Lead, said: “Local authorities and their partners have been working hard to understand and plan for the changes required to bring about rapid rehousing. We are asking for a herculean task to bring about a whole system change, which will, if done correctly, drastically reduce the need for temporary accommodation.

“The timing of these proposals seems to be premature, and we call on the Scottish Government to delay implementing any changes until enough time has been given to allow rapid rehousing transition plans to deliver what they promise.”
