SFHA launches service to help members to recruit board members

Gillian Duddy, SFHA Membership Lead, discusses SFHA’s OnBoard service, which will support members’ governing body member recruitment.

Housing associations are facing unprecedented challenges. A key part of ensuring that your organisation is equipped to deal with this is by having a strong and effective board. However, we know that recruiting board members can be a challenge in itself, so SFHA is launching a service for members in order to support this process.

The OnBoard service will support SFHA members that are looking to recruit to their boards. OnBoard will work in two ways: members can contact us when opportunities arise, and these will be added to a register of recruiters. We will also be inviting people who would like to become governing body members to join the register as potential candidates. We will then match candidates with organisations, depending on organisations’ needs and the candidates’ skillsets.

Training and development

OnBoard will work with those who are interested in joining a board and support them in developing the skills and knowledge they need to be part of a housing association.

We will provide those who have less experience with support as part of their ongoing development journey in order to help them to become ideal candidates for board vacancies.

Those who already have board experience can sign up for masterclasses to take their skills to the next level.

A highly rewarding opportunity with professional and personal development

Being part of a board could seem like a daunting prospect, but it can be highly rewarding and provide a great opportunity for professional and personal development while allowing you to broaden your network.

Come OnBoard

To get involved, either as a potential candidate or as an organisation looking to recruit, please visit the OnBoard section of our website.

We’re also looking for existing board members who want to share with us why they became a board member and what they have gained from their experience in order to help us to promote the service. To share your experience, or to find out more, please contact SFHA Communications and Marketing Co-ordinator Rachel Orr by emailing rorr@sfha.co.uk
