Social Housing Resilience Group weekly update: 23 July

Update on the SHRG's work and key issues.

Posted In

The Social Housing Resilience Group (SHRG) was convened by SFHA in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

As well as SFHA, the SHRG comprises Scottish Government, Public Health Scotland, Scottish Housing Regulator, Wheatley Group, Glasgow and West of Scotland Forum of Housing Associations, Chartered Institute of Housing Scotland, and Association of Local Authority Chief Housing Officers.

It aims to deal with the significant challenges the outbreak is causing so that social landlords can continue to provide the support their tenants and communities need.

The latest updates on the SHRG's work are as follows:

  • The Scottish Housing Regulator has published a third dashboard and full dataset, showing an increase in arrears, increase in empty homes (whilst there has been an increase in lettings activity nationally), and significant increase in number of people in temporary accommodation.
  • An updated restarting services guide was issued on 15 July. You can view this by clicking here.
  • A draft paper on care and support models is under development by the group.
  • The SHRG have produced a response to the Economic Recovery advisory group report. This has been shared with Government.
  • A discussion took place regarding the current Affordable Housing Supply programme and the need for a new programme as part of the next Programme for Government.
  • A discussion surrounding the moratorium on evictions took place and further work was agreed.
  • The SHRG is planning a discussion on the recommendations by the HARSAG group to Ministers.  You can read the report by clicking here.
