SFHA would like to say a huge thank you to all our members, the wider housing sector and the general public for being so enthusiastic about Scottish Housing Day and ensuring our message reached far and wide.

We were delighted to see #scottishhousingday trending on Twitter across the nation – there’s absolutely no doubt everyone’s efforts have helped spread the word about the good work done across the housing sector and how a safe and secure home is life changing.

An exclusive poll carried out ahead of Scottish Housing Day found 83% of Scots are satisfied with their current housing situation while 16% are not.

Carried out by Progressive Scottish Opinion in conjunction with YouGov, the opinion poll asked 1,021 Scottish adults a series of questions about their current housing situation, the type of housing they expect to be living in in five years’ time as well as the type of housing they would ideally like to live in five years from now. The results are weighted to be representative of the Scottish population as a whole in terms of age, gender, education level, social status and geographic location.

Responding to the poll, 41% described themselves as ‘very satisfied’ with their current housing situation, be that as an owner occupier, renting from a private landlord, social renting or one of a range of other options. A further 42% said they were ‘fairly satisfied’ with their current housing situation while 11% said they were ‘fairly unsatisfied’ and 5% said they were ‘very unsatisfied’.

The results are a positive sign of how far housing has come in Scotland – however, it also highlights that there is work yet to be done to ensure everyone has somewhere warm, safe, secure and affordable they can call home.

SFHA will continue to work with our inspirational members to support their efforts to provide this. Housing is so much more than just bricks and mortar – housing associations and co-operatives across Scotland provide care services, financial advice, digital inclusion, training opportunities and build inclusive communities in our cities, towns, rural villages and islands.

SFHA members who held events to mark Scottish Housing Day are invited to email details to be included in our Housing Scotland magazine. Simply send information and photographs to smitchell@sfha.co.uk
