Gorbals Towerblock fire

One year on from the Grenfell Tower tragedy, today’s fire in Glasgow is a sharp reminder that there can be no room for complacency about fire safety.

One year on from the Grenfell Tower tragedy, today’s fire in Glasgow is a sharp reminder that there can be no room for complacency about fire safety.

The sector as a whole has worked with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, tenants groups and local authorities to reassure residents, and ensure close working with the fire service and strong communication and engagement with residents.

During the last year, SFHA and our members have worked with the Scottish Government, in particular in relation to work on high rise fire safety, on plans to increase standards on fire and smoke alarms and engaged with MSPs about future changes in relation to standards.

SFHA CEO, Sally Thomas, said:

“One year on from Grenfell, while our sector in Scotland has high standards we must not be complacent.

“We will continue to work with our members and the sector as a whole, with the Scottish Government and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to ensure that the right advice is available and that investment is put in place where it is needed to ensure tenant safety.”
