Housing (Amendment) (Scotland) Bill passed by Scottish Parliament

On 31 May, the Scottish Parliament passed the Housing (Amendment) (Scotland) Bill without any further amendments. This follows close liaison between Scottish Government and SFHA during the drafting and passage of the Bill.

It is expected that the Bill will receive Royal Assent and become an Act during July. Further regulations will need to be drafted in order to fully commence the Act, which are expected to be in place by September 2018.   From there it is anticipated that ONS will reverse their reclassification of RSLs - making them private bodies once more.

This will ensure that RSLs continue to have the freedom to source private borrowing to fund the development of much needed affordable housing in Scotland.
