Creating housing solutions through technology – new website resource

Technology Enabled Care (TEC) Ready is a national programme, funded by the Scottish Government’s TEC Programme and hosted by the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA).

Technology Enabled Care (TEC) Ready is a national programme, funded by the Scottish Government’s TEC Programme and hosted by the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA). Since 2016, TEC Ready has been working with housing organisations and individuals to support the valuable contribution that the housing sector is making to the innovative use of TEC.

More recently, TEC Ready has been working with housing organisations across Scotland to capture their experiences and learning. Intended as a useful resource www.techousing.co.uk showcases some of the ways in which housing organisations are already using TEC to create solutions.

The website includes contributions from those leading on some of the most innovative developments in TEC.  Short filmed interviews highlight how organisations have tackled issues such as redesigning services, involving customers, and dealing with the challenges of connectivity.

Commenting on the new website Fanchea Kelly, Chief Executive of Blackwood and Chair of TEC Ready, said:

“The housing sector in Scotland has considerable reach. Social landlords (local authorities and housing associations) provide around 500,000 homes across Scotland in nearly all locations and communities. This reach has provided an opportunity to take forward the preventive agenda through technology enabled care. I’m delighted to see the new website up and running and hope it will prove to be a valuable resource to all those interested in strengthening the links between housing, cutting edge technology and person centred services to all those in our communities.”

Moira Charters, Head of Improvement and Innovation, Loreburn Housing Association (and one of the contributors to the website) said:

“Housing providers in Scotland continue to push the boundaries, utilising technology in areas where previously it may not have been considered. Recently Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s Chief Executive Officer, used the Loreburn Housing Association and CM2000 falls prevention solution, ARMED, as an example in a keynote speech. This growing recognition that technology can be used to bring about transformational outcomes for individuals is fantastic. The TEC Ready website is a great opportunity to share the knowledge and inspire with stories from across the social housing sector in Scotland.”

Notes:

  1. has been developed as part of the Technology Enabled Care (TEC) Ready programme, which is funded by the Scottish Government’s TEC Programme. Since 2016, TEC Ready has been supporting the valuable contribution that the housing sector is making to the use of TEC in housing.
  2. The TEC Ready programme is also supported by Digital Health and Care Scotland.  It is hosted by Scottish Federation of Housing Associations and has the support of CIH Scotland, Scotland’s Housing Network and Glasgow West of Scotland Forum.
  3. Loreburn Housing Association, in partnership with care management technology company CM2000 has developed preventative technology with a focus on falls prevention. ARMED involves a low-cost wearable device that can detect early indicators of frailty, such as low grip strength, muscle mass, hydration levels, low heart rate and heart rate variability, by gathering ‘live’ data. By anticipating issues before they arise, the technology allows elderly residents to live independently in their own homes for longer, significantly improving their wellbeing and quality of life. https://techousing.co.uk/a-r-m-e-d/
