A look ahead to SFHA Housing Management Conference 2018

Blog by Zhan McIntyre, SFHA Policy lead.

A few weeks ago, we met with the SFHA Housing Management Planning Group to talk about the programme for this year’s conference. The group highlighted that, while housing management has never been an easy job, it does seem to be getting a bit harder. There are so many plates to spin while juggling multiple roles of rent collector, enforcer and shoulder to cry on. Keeping on top of everything seems to be getting more challenging, as resources are getting tighter and needs ‘sharper’ as welfare reforms continue.

The planning group was keen that we had a good range of practical sessions giving housing professionals the chance to network and learn from each other and partner organisations as well as the chance to take a step back and look at the wider social housing picture. They were also keen that we focused on the health and wellbeing of housing professionals, as working in the current environment is stressful.

With that in mind, we have booked a great venue; 200 SVS in Glasgow is a beautiful building that has a Japanese garden, where delegates can go for some reflective time. We have arranged a number of thought provoking and interesting speakers to share their opinions and knowledge and, hopefully, engage and inspire us as a sector. We are also organising some sessions that allow delegates to take some time to relax.

Plenary session include life for low income families in Scotland, technology, homelessness, fire safety and prevention and a legal clinic – all key issues for housing management staff.

A full copy of the conference programme and details on how to book are available by visiting the SFHA website.
