Housing Innovation - SFHA ‘Home of the Future’ projects kick off!

The innovation action plan continues with three projects on service transformation, which will be delivered by team members over a six-week period.

The SFHA Innovation and Future Thinking initiative’s second set of projects kicks off this week following three successful Innovation Boot Camps which took place during August and September 2018.

The third Innovation Boot Camp brought together a team to generate ideas on the theme of Home of the Future. Teams at all three boot camps used a range of innovation and engagement tools, and have now agreed an action plan for the innovation programme.

Continuing this action plan are three projects on the home of the future, which will be delivered by team members over a six-week period.

Meet the teams

The first project will focus on construction methods. Led by Sarah Buchanan from the Construction Scotland Innovation Centre (CSIC), the project will explore how SFHA, in partnership with CSIC, can support housing associations to employ modern methods of construction.

The second project team is led by Occupational Therapist & Business Change Consultant Jill Pritchard, and involves designing a futuristic challenge which will lead participants from the housing sector to visualise how we will all live and work in the future.

The third project will involve creating a digital model for asset management. Led by Colin Hastie from Bruach Design and Consultancy, the project will scope what a digital model for managing existing assets might look like, and design a project to test this approach.

The fourth and final project is led by Ivan Clark from Scottish Natural Heritage. The project will see Ivan and his team prepare a joint approach to testing the benefits and business case for using green features in the built environment (e.g. green roofs, raingardens and greenspace) to provide a range of benefits for people and nature.

This ‘green infrastructure’ can help housing associations to solve urban and climatic challenges and deliver successful outdoor spaces that everyone can enjoy.

Each of the projects has a duration of six weeks, with a further round of projects starting in November. As a result, SFHA expects a host of marvellous outputs to test and develop further with the sector by the end of this year!
