NEW DATE for SFHA roundtable on Natural Migration Inquiry

The House of Commons Work and Pensions Select Committee has launched an inquiry into the natural migration of claimants who were previously in receipt of legacy benefits to Universal Credit.

Whilst there has been much recent media focus on managed migration and the UK Government’s pledge to run a trial managed migration for 10,000 claimants only, there have been many claimants who were on legacy benefits being migrated naturally, due to a change of circumstance. As there is no transitional protection for natural migration, many of these claimants have faced a sudden drop in income.

The committee is concerned to find out the effects of this change on claimants and how they have coped. It would also like to find out more about the triggers that prompted a claimant’s natural migration as it feels that there is a lack of clear and comprehensive information. More information about the inquiry can be found on the UK Parliament website.

The deadline for evidence submission is 18 February. The SFHA and Housing Support Enabling Unit will be holding a round table at 11.30am on Tuesday February at SFHA's offices in Glasgow to elicit views (Please note new date and time). If you would like to attend please book a place via Eventbrite. If you cannot attend but would like to share your views, please contact Policy Advisor Jeremy Hewer directly.
