DWP plan to improve Universal Credit payments to landlords
The DWP has let it be known that the development of a better system of managed payments to landlords has been included in its approved development priorities for 2019.
Currently, managed payments to landlords and Scottish UC Choices direct payment to landlords are administered via the DWP’s Central Payment System, which is run every four weeks. The absence of any synchronisation, between the monthly deduction of housing costs from an individual’s UC payment and the onward payment to the landlord, has proven to be an administrative nightmare, leaving a tenant in fear of losing their home for non-payment of rent, even if a managed payment may be eventually forthcoming.
