Regulations published on 18-21 year old rule

UK Government publishes regulations governing removal of entitlement to Universal Credit housing costs.

The UK Government has published the regulations governing the removal of entitlement to Universal Credit housing costs.

The regulations, which can be found on the legislation.gov.uk website, reveal that the removal of entitlement will apply to new Universal Credit claims in 'full' service areas. There are also a number of exemptions to the rule, which means that the numbers affected by the rule will be comparatively small and will save the DWP relatively little - around £95 million during the course of the current parliament.

Any savings are likely to be more than overshadowed by the increased costs of tackling homelessness, particularly in Scotland where homelessness legislation is more progressive.
