Update on Fire Safety - August 2018

Following the Grenfell tragedy there has been an increased focus on fire safety in buildings.  The Scottish Government plans to introduce higher standards for fire and smoke alarms in existing homes.  It has also opened a consultation on fire safety in building standards.

Scottish Government launches consultation on post-2020 Energy Efficiency Standards for Social Housing (EESSH)

The Scottish Government has launched a consultation on proposed energy efficiency standards for social housing post 2020.  These standards would aim to help address fuel poverty and reduce carbon emissions.  The EESSH2 standards are highly ambitious – with a target EPC of Band B for 2032 for the vast majority of homes.  The consultation, which opened in May, is open for 3 months.

SHR Enquiry into Repairs Finds Improved Performance

A thematic enquiry into repairs by the Scottish Housing Regulator (SHR) has found that tenants place a significant emphasis on repairs. It has also found that social landlords’ performance is improving.
