SFHA Governing Body Members' Guide - A Slight Update

In October 2014, SFHA published a guide for Governing Body Members, as a result of a suggestion from the Federation of Local Housing Associations in Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire (FLAIR) who contributed to its content.    The guide is a model that can be customised to suit individual RSLs and provided to Governing Body Members (GBMs) to help them in their role.   It is especially useful for new GBMs.

Housing (Amendment) (Scotland) Bill Reaches Stage 3

Following some minor amendments logged by Scottish Government at Stage 2 (see here), the Housing (Amendment) (Scotland) Bill has reached Stage 3 in the Scottish Parliament.

Housing (Amendment) (Scotland) Bill Stage 2 Amendments

As anticipated, Scottish Government has lodged two amendments at Stage 2 of the Housing (Amendment) (Scotland) Bill.    These were to take account of recommendations made by the Local Government and Communities Committee report at Stage 1.

GDPR Frequently Asked Questions Now Available

To follow up from the GDPR events that SFHA and GWSF held in March, and questions that have been asked by members since organisations have been working towards compliance, a document is now available to SFHA and GWSF members outlining Frequently Asked Questions.   This document can be used in conjunction with the GDPR Guidance and Templates made available in February. Broad answers to these questions have been provided by TC Young, but it is important that this is intended purely as a steer and is not a substitute for legal advice that will be required to ensure compliance with GDPR requirements.

Can a Tenant Governing Body Member be Removed from the Governing Body for Rent Arrears?

Following discussions with the Scottish Housing Regulator and TC Young, SFHA has produced a short two page briefing note about whether it would be possible to remove a tenant Governing Body Member (GBM) from the Governing Body because they were in rent arrears.

Housing (Amendment) (Scotland) Bill passed by Scottish Parliament

On 31 May, the Scottish Parliament passed the Housing (Amendment) (Scotland) Bill without any further amendments. This follows close liaison between Scottish Government and SFHA during the drafting and passage of the Bill.
