Discretion around first month rental payments

SFHA and Shelter Scotland to explore role of discretion around first month rental payment for new tenants

SFHA is working with Shelter Scotland to promote sustainable tenancies for all. The federation is currently undertaking some research to allow it to understand the role of discretion around first month rental payment for new tenants. In particular, it is interested in how this relates to homelessness and other vulnerable households who find themselves unable to meet this payment.

The SFHA’s aim is to improve its understanding of the views of associations regarding what represents good practice in this area to be better able to support households into new tenancies.

The SFHA is interested in housing managers’ views on what can be done to increase the rates of successful, sustainable tenancies and what you think could be done to help

To help us find out more, the SFHA has created a short survey.

The survey deadline is 9am on Friday 31 March.

If you have any queries about the survey, please contact Aoife Deery, Policy Officer, at Shelter Scotland at aoife_deery@shelter.org.uk or on 0344 515 2458.

Alternatively, get in touch with the SFHA’s Research Officer, Janine Mckenna, at jmckenna@sfha.co.uk or on 0141 567 6231.
