Summary

The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights states that “extreme poverty involves a lack of income, a lack of access to basic services and social exclusion.” 20% of Scotland's population and 24% of its children are living in relative poverty after housing costs

Everyone should have a good home in a successful community, with a range of high quality, affordable, safe and accessible homes that meet their changing needs and aspirations throughout life.

Housing associations and co-operatives are central to achieving this, going way beyond the bricks and mortar with social justice built in and delivering from generation to generation. It is not simply a case of bricks and mortar: housing associations do more through a variety of initiatives and partnerships and in these pages, amongst other relevant items,  examples of just how they are doing that can be found.
