SFHA submits evidence to Work and Pensions Select Committee Inquiry on Universal Credit roll-out

SFHA responds to inquiry into Universal Credit

The House of Commons Work and Pensions Committee has re-opened its inquiry into the roll-out of Universal Credit. The SFHA submitted a response thanks to the information supplied by members through the monthly Universal Credit Impact Survey.

Jeremy Hewer, SFHA Policy Adviser, said:

“I would like to thank all those who take the time to complete it. The roll-out of the Full service is going to have a huge impact on associations, not only because the DWP has adopted a totally different way of administering Universal Credit but also because it has removed gateway criteria, so many more households will have to apply for Universal Credit. Therefore, there will be many more complex cases of families with young children, who will inevitably have different issues than households comprising single people.

“I would urge you, if your association does not already do so, to complete the monthly Universal Credit survey so the SFHA can demonstrate to the UK and Scottish Governments, and others, the real impact of Universal Credit on our tenants.

If you would like any further information on the survey, please contact either Jeremy Hewer jhewer@sfha.co.uk or Janine McKenna jmckenna@sfha.co.uk.
