About the training

The session will give an overview of what is meant by mental health and mental ill health.  Also covered is an awareness of stress, loneliness, and isolation, which can be prevalent during a pandemic.

Meeting format information

This session will be run as a Zoom meeting. This will allow you to have your camera and, when invited, microphone enabled. This will give you an opportunity to interact with the speaker and the other participants. We hope this will let you discuss and share good practice on this important topic.

The live event will open up 5 minutes before the scheduled start time and when you join you will be placed in a waiting room until a member of the SFHA team admits you.

Mechele is the director of Mechele Wimble Training. She holds a Master of Science in Human Resource Management and a Certificate in Training Practice. She is a trained mindfulness tutor and has worked in the Public, Private and Voluntary Sector.

Mechele provides both off the shelf and bespoke mental health awareness training courses which are tailor-made for an organisation’s needs. Her training courses have been delivered throughout the United Kingdom, America, Europe and Australasia. She has worked with many companies, including Fyne Homes, Govan Housing Association, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow, Wood Mackenzie, Aegon, and Thales.

Amongst the bespoke training she offers, Mechele has written both online and face to face courses. Whilst working at the NHS she wrote several National training courses, one of which was Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid: Young People’s Course. As well as writing the DVD scripts and being involved in the filming and website development, she also wrote and delivered the train the trainer course to trainers throughout Scotland. Mechele has now delivered the course to over 300 teachers. Furthermore, she has recently launched her new training course for teens, helping them to support peers who may be experiencing a mental health crisis.

Mechele is passionate about ensuring that everyone is aware of how to support both themselves and others when suffering a mental illness. Having worked herself in a variety of roles in organisations such as NHS Health Scotland, The Richmond Fellowship Scotland, Aspire Housing and Personal Development, and British Airways, she understands how mental health issues can affect employees working in busy and pressurised environments. She feels that if we know how to support someone sensitively and effectively, their recovery can happen a lot faster.

On a lighter note, Mechele also enjoys reading and is a volunteer with Open Book, while having lived in Scotland for 30 years, she still loves to travel to her native OZ to see her large family!
