Ark

ARK Consultancy has joined SFHA as a Sector Associate and is looking forward to supporting the sector through collaboration, shared learning, and practical solutions.

ARK has always believed that great housing is about more than buildings. It’s about people, communities, and the systems that support them.

About ARK Consultancy

Since ARK was formed in 1990, it has grown into one of the UK’s leading housing consultancies. Its team is made up of a mix of former housing association leaders, local authority staff, consultants, and commercial professionals. Together, they bring experience, insight, and a hands-on approach to every project.

ARK work with housing providers of all sizes, across the UK, and is especially keen to grow their work in Scotland, which underlines the importance of its Associate membership of SFHA.

What ARK does

In short, ARK helps housing organisations plan, improve, and deliver services more effectively. That can mean all sorts of things in practice:

  • Carrying out stock condition surveys or asset reviews
  • Placing experienced interims in senior roles
  • Helping social landlords develop sustainability strategies
  • Supporting boards with governance and strategic planning
  • Redesigning customer services to be more efficient and user-friendly

Some projects are big, long-term pieces of work. Others are shorter, focused advisory or troubleshooting. ARK is that trusted partner that is so often required in a challenging and ever-changing sector, leaving clients in a stronger position than when they arrived — with better systems, clearer strategies and plans, or more confidence in their next steps.

Supporting the Scottish housing sector

ARK is no stranger to working in Scotland. Assistant Director Kirsty Wells has more than 30 years’ experience is the Scottish Housing Sector and Board Directors John Paterson and Kieran Colgan have both celebrated successful projects in Galashiels and Falkirk respectively.  Over the past few years, ARK has supported several housing associations and co-operatives in Scotland, from helping with asset management and procurement, to supporting changes in leadership or offering service reviews.

Scotland’s housing landscape has its own shape, from the policy environment to the way regulation and funding works. Therefore, ARK does not offer one-size-fits-all solutions. Its approach is grounded in listening, understanding what’s needed locally, and delivering something that’s genuinely useful.

Through Associate membership with SFHA, ARK is looking forward to work more closely with housing organisations across the country.

Let’s connect

ARK is on the lookout for Scotland-based professionals who might be interested in working with them. That could mean joining as an associate consultant, delivering projects in your area of expertise, or stepping into an interim role with one of ARK's clients.

If you’ve got experience in housing, regeneration, governance, asset management, or service improvement, and you care about making a difference, ARK would love to hear from you.

Even if the timing’s not quite right, they're always happy to have a conversation and make connections for the future.

Looking ahead

Being part of the SFHA network isn’t just about promoting what ARK does. It’s about being part of the wider conversation, including sharing ideas, learning from others, and contributing to the future of social housing in Scotland.

ARK will be getting involved in SFHA events, writing blogs, and continuing to grow our work with Scottish landlords. If there’s something they can help you with, or if you just want to know more about what they do, please get in touch.
