Barrhead Housing Association welcomes first tenants to new development
The social rented properties include four three-bedroom end-terrace homes, four two-bedroom mid-terrace properties, and two three-bedroom semi-detached homes.
Barrhead Housing Association has welcomed the first tenants to its new affordable homes which have been built by Bellway at Rosemont Park in Barrhead.
The two organisations collaborated to build 10 new affordable homes, with support from East Renfrewshire Council, as part of a new community of homes located on Blackbyres Road. The Scottish Government provided over £784,000 in funding support to Barrhead Housing Association.
Located in a setting within walking distance of Gleniffer Braes Country Park, Rosemont Park benefits from its proximity to local amenities, including GP and dental practices, three supermarkets, a leisure centre and Barrhead railway station, which is just a mile away, with regular services running to Glasgow and Kilmarnock.
The first residents to receive their keys said: “I am very happy, it’s a home for life.
“All I know is that I love it, it’s amazing and we’re so happy to have had that opportunity to have a brand-new house.
“Life in my new home is simply fabulous, not only is it a quality build and energy saving, but both the neighbours and the entire estate is a wonderful community. I think I can safely say I feel as if we’ve lived here forever.”
The social-rented properties include four three-bedroom end-terrace homes, four two-bedroom mid-terrace properties and two larger three-bedroom semi-detached homes. Each property benefits from stylish interior features, including attractive kitchens and bathrooms, energy-efficient heating and French doors, leading to a private rear garden. Car parking is also available to the front of each home.
Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Housing and Local Government Shona Robison MSP, said: “I am delighted to see the completion of this project, which will provide warm, safe, affordable homes for Barrhead Housing Association tenants, built to high energy-efficiency standards.
“Blackbyres Road is one of many projects across the country which further our aim of ensuring everyone in Scotland has a home they can afford and that meets their needs. With that in mind ,we have a target to deliver 110,000 affordable homes by 2032, with 70% for social rent, backed by investment of £3.6 billion over the current parliamentary term.”
Councillor Danny Devlin, Housing and Maintenance Convener from East Renfrewshire Council, said: “East Renfrewshire continues to be a very popular place to live, so I am delighted to see the first tenants move into their new homes.
"The council’s priority is to continue to provide quality, affordable housing for our residents and this development helps us to achieve that.”
