Bridgewater Housing Association’s sheltered housing tenants, their family and friends were invited to Bridgewater’s first art exhibition, which launched on Monday 5 December 2022.

The event showcased artwork produced by tenants at creative art classes organised by association's the housing support team and delivered by Liz Shepherd, community artist.

The exhibition, where tenant’s portfolios were displayed, ran from Monday 5 December until Friday 9 December in Bargarran Community Centre, where the classes are held, free of charge to tenants, each week thanks to funding received from the Co-op and the National Lottery. Those who attended provided positive feedback on the exhibition and were impressed with the standard of artwork on display.

Those who participated in the classes also commented positively about their experiences at the classes:

Jackie Scanlon said: “I am delighted, I never thought I could have done art. Great company, getting to know each other, meeting new people.”

Barbara McMahon said: “I really enjoy coming to classes. Meeting new people and Friends. Learning things, I haven’t done before.”

Chris Murray said: “Great, Nice people. Getting to do things I have never done before like using charcoal.”

Gwen Ross said: “Absolutely loving classes. Never drawn before. Teachers are doing so well with me.”

Future funding is being sought by Bridgewater, and it hopes to be able to continue the art and strength and balance classes in 2023.
