Changeworks has supported Manor Estates Housing Association to tackle fuel poverty for tenants
After a survey of its tenants found the majority were in fuel poverty, Manor Estates Housing Association called on Changeworks to help it tackle the problem.
Changeworks worked alongside Manor HA to design a service that was specifically tailored to their tenants’ needs and could have the biggest impact.
Manor HA support us to target those tenants most likely to benefit from energy advice support – e.g. those in rent arrears, on benefits, with a vulnerability, who have had their gas capped. A combination of targeted energy advice campaigns and working with staff to refer those they identify in fuel poverty is starting to make a real difference, showing the benefits of a really engaged housing association and a well-connected partnership. In the nine months of the project so far, the total saving is £18,148. That’s £187 per tenant, above the target of £150.
Alasdair Fraser, Housing Manager with Manor Estates said: “We are delighted with the outcomes of the project with Changeworks – particularly in these times, it is good to be able to offer this service to our tenants.”
