Elderpark has been distributing 300 festive food bags to tenants in need.
An operation to hand out 300 festive food goodie bags to Elderpark Housing tenants is under way.
Over the next nine days, the association will distribute the festive helping hand in time for Christmas.
It has come about thanks to a link-up between Elderpark Housing, charity Urban Roots and the association’s technology supplier, CX-Feedback.
Between now and 23 December, parcels containing non-perishable food items are being distributed with the aim of helping with the cost of living at this time of the year.
Tenants have been encouraged to come to the 'Dig In' community shop in Govan’s Crossloan Road, and the giveaway is taking place on 16. 21 and 23 December, from 14:00 to 16:00 each day.
Elderpark Housing identified tenants on its housing list considered to be ideal recipients for these goodie bags, in addition to those who turned up at the shop, on the understanding that they were issued on a first come, first served basis. People who sought the help of the association’s fuel adviser were also included. Staff from Elderpark Housing have signed up to help with the distribution of the parcels on all four days.
With funding from the Scotmid Co-operative, the initiative is also providing 200 selection boxes for children. To ensure a zero waste approach, any food left over will be used for popular Saturday meals organised at the Moogety Grub Hub – a food hub based in Govan.
Gary Dalziel, Chief Executive of Elderpark Housing, said: “This is an important initiative, coming at a time of severe challenges for many families struggling to afford the cost of Christmas coupled with soaring energy costs.
"We are pleased, with our partners, CX-Feedback and Urban Roots, to be doing something to ease that pressure.”
