Communities across Scotland have received a helping hand as SFHA staff volunteered with a number of housing associations' community projects.
As SFHA marks its 50th Anniversary, staff have tried their hand at everything from helping members deliver lunch clubs and tea dances, to litter picking and mural painting.
As well as a range of activities at Forgewood Housing Co-Operative, Garrion People's Housing Co-Operative and Harbour Homes, among others, one of the recent projects SFHA staff volunteered at was Thenue Housing in Glasgow.
Last month staff rolled up their sleeves in Calton and Castlemilk joining Thenue to tidy up a much-valued green space and paint a mural overlooking waste ground.
They painted raised flower beds, removed moss and weeds from paths and undertook a litter pick.
The first day of volunteering at Thenue was at Elcho Gardens in Calton, which is used as an outdoor social space for a variety of activities and events including gardening, family days, community events and is managed by Thenue Communities.
And the second day of volunteering at Thenue was at Holmbyre Terrace in Castlemilk, a site based on waste ground which Thenue is regenerating into a community space.
Already a mural has been established, raised planters have been installed and work is progressing well. SFHA volunteers were tasked with adding a splash of sky-blue colour to the mural.
Ruth Adam, Thenue’s Community Regeneration Manager, thanked the SFHA teams for their participation.
Ruth said : “We were delighted to welcome the volunteers from the SFHA and thank them for their hard work. Volunteering is the perfect way to mark a 50th anniversary and Thenue did the same thing when we were celebrating fifty years in 2019.
“Thenue would like to wish the SFHA a very happy birthday and a successful year of celebrations."
SFHA would like to thank all members who have welcomed SFHA staff to volunteering projects this year. If your organisation has any volunteering activities coming up, please get in touch with SFHA at enquiries@sfha.co.uk.
