With over 80% of Scotland’s social housing still reliant on gas boilers for heating, the need for housing associations to accelerate the decarbonisation of their stock has never been more pressing.
As we move collectively toward Net Zero, housing association boards and committees will have a crucial role to play in setting out the strategic vision required to make this a reality for RSLs and their tenants.
To support this, SFHA’s strategic partner Warmworks is hosting a 60-minute webinar on 9 December, which will help board and committee members to improve their knowledge of Net Zero.
The webinar will cover:
- The case for decarbonisation – why Net Zero matters for RSLs and the people and communities they serve
- The current policy and regulatory context – including updates on legislation, government targets, and sector-specific obligations
- Key technologies – an overview of effective solutions for improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions in social housing
- Funding opportunities – guidance on the financial support available to help RSLs implement retrofit and decarbonisation projects
The session will be delivered by Laura Fordyce, a housing association board member and Business Development Manager at Warmworks, who commented:
“This is an excellent opportunity for board and committee members to gain valuable insight into the opportunities and challenges presented by Net Zero and the huge impact it can have on the lives of their tenants – creating warmer, more comfortable homes and lowering fuel bills.
“Not only will you get an overview of the current policy landscape around decarbonisation in Scotland’s social housing sector, but you’ll also learn about the technologies that are powering this transition and hear about some of the renewable energy projects Warmworks has already delivered for housing associations across the country.
“I’d encourage all board members who would like to know more about the role RSLs play in achieving Net Zero to sign up. I look forward to seeing you there.”
