Scheme will reduce energy prices for non-domestic energy customers.
The UK Government has launched the Energy Bill Relief Scheme which will reduce energy prices for non-domestic energy customers. This will include businesses, charities and public sector organisations and will apply to fixed contracts agreed on, or after, 1 April 2022 in addition to deemed, variable and flexible tariffs and contracts.
The reductions for both gas and electricity will be based on a supported wholesale price set by government which is expected to be less than half of the wholesale prices anticipated this winter. This discount will be applied automatically to bills and emergency legislation will be introduced to underpin the scheme.
The scheme will initially run for six months but will be reviewed after three months to inform decisions on the continuation of the scheme beyond March 2023.
SFHA will be working closely with its UK counterparts to ensure social landlords continue to receive adequate support in order to sustain their services while keeping costs affordable for tenants.
