Kaukab Stewart, Scotland's Equalities Minister, visited Leverburgh and Tarbert to discuss housing challenges in Harris and HHP's efforts to provide affordable homes.
Kaukab Stewart, the Minister for Equalities in Scotland, visited the islands for a short but significant visit. During her time there, she was welcomed by Gordon Macleod, Chair of HHP, who guided her through two crucial sites in Leverburgh and Tarbert—one where construction has recently begun and another proposed for future development.
Gordon Macleod, Chair of HHP said: “We had the pleasure of hosting the Minister for Equalities during a visit to our new development in Leverburgh, where construction has recently started, and to our proposed housing site in Tarbert. Both locations have presented challenges but confirm our commitment to providing affordable housing throughout our communities. Harris, in particular, faces significant hurdles, with a thriving tourism industry sitting alongside an aging and reducing population, making it tough for young people to find housing. During the visit, I discussed these issues with the minister and demonstrated how HHP is contributing to addressing these challenges.”
