In March 2023, the Scottish Government published a report on temporary accommodation by the Task and Finish Group of the Homelessness Prevention Strategy Group. This was followed by Reducing the Use of Temporary Accommodation, which set out actions including:
£60m from the Affordable Housing Supply Programme to fund both local authorities and housing associations to acquire existing homes as part of a National Acquisitions Plan which is being drafted by Scottish Government
An intention to work with social landlords on a stock management programme, to include void management, a greater allocation of social homes to homeless households, a focus on bringing empty homes into use and large scale “flipping” (that is, turning temporary accommodation into permanent homes for those in residence).
