Research report into, and government response to, Practical Fire Safety Guidance for Specialised Housing and Similar Premises now available.
The Scottish Government’s Practical Fire Safety Guidance for Specialised Housing and Similar Premises was published in January 2020. A research report into its impact and effectiveness, along with the government’s response and proposed actions, is now available on the Scottish Government website.
The guidance is primarily for those who are responsible for specialised housing and who provide care and support services, but it is also useful for those receiving 'care at home' services or support in general needs housing.
The guidance recognises that those receiving care or support can be more at risk from fire. It promotes both a 'person-centred' and a 'premises-based' approach to preventing fire and reducing risk.
A main recommendation from the research was to further improve awareness and use of the guidance, and the Scottish Government is working with CCPS Housing Support Enabling Unit and SFHA on this and other actions from the recommendations.
