First Minister Humza Yousaf MSP today announced the end of the SNP-Green power-sharing deal ‘effective immediately’, meaning that the Scottish Greens have now exited the Scottish Government and the SNP are a minority government.

As Minister for Zero Carbon Buildings, Active Travel and Tenants' Rights, Scottish Green's co-leader Patrick Harvie MSP had shared responsibility for housing. The First Minister has confirmed that in the short-term his responsibilities will be covered by the Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice.

It’s unclear at this point the impact this will have on issues related to housing. Prior to this, the Scottish Government had already confirmed it was dropping its climate change target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 75% by 2030. They outlined that the government’s goal of reaching net-zero by 2045 would remain in place and that policies aimed at achieving this would be announced in due course.

The power sharing deal, the Bute House Agreement, also including the target for delivering 110,000 affordable homes by 2032. The Scottish Government has already announced a review into the ‘deliverability’ of this. SFHA will update members when more information is available.
