Hebridean Housing Partnership (HHP) has announced that Johnstone Court, Balivanich, named after Donald John Johnstone, a popular and well-respected taxi driver, was officially opened on 11 August by his sister, Agnes Johnstone.
Lesley Ann Wicks is now a resident of one of the new homes in Johnstone Court.
She said: “I love my kitchen as I’ve never been able to fit a table and chairs in and it is far superior to what I expected.
“If every house is built the same as this, everyone will have a great house.”
Local contractor, Calmax Construction Ltd, completed the work of 10 social rent homes for families.
HHP said that the new development is a continuation of its success in delivering high-quality affordable housing throughout the Outer Hebrides, with funding from the Scottish Government and assistance from the Comhairle.
Among the attendees at the opening were tenants Lesley-Ann Wicks, Catherine Monk; with Jessie MacPherson from the Johnstone family; HHP board members Alison Maccorquodale and Iain M MacLeod; and HHP staff Dena MacLeod, Linda Johnston, Katie Walker and Roddy Wilson and Matthew Hebditch (TIG).
