What's in this issue?
- With COP26 just around the corner, this edition has a special focus on climate change, and you can read about the many innovative ways SFHA members are tackling it. On pages 16–19, learn about how West of Scotland Housing Association’s new green strategy will help it to achieve a more sustainable future for its staff and communities. We also have articles by Eildon (pages 32–33) and Hillcrest (pages 36–37), on the sustainable, highly energy efficient development methods they are using which are helping to make a real difference to tenants’ lives.
- However, we can’t act alone. To truly make a lasting impact, we must work with other partners. This call for collaborative working was one of the key recommendations of the Zero Emissions Social Housing Taskforce (ZEST). On pages 9–11, you can read ZEST’s recommendations and the actions we must take next in order to maximise our sector’s contribution to achieving the government’s climate change targets.
- Working together with the Scottish Government is going to be vital to delivering net zero emissions homes. We’re delighted to have an article form Cabinet Secretary Michael Matheson (pages 6–8), setting out how the government and our sector can work together to ensure a just transition for all tenants.
- Outside of our theme, you can catch up on some SFHA events. In September, we launched our new three-year strategy which sets out how we’ll support members to continue delivering in a post-pandemic Scotland. If you missed the launch, read about our strategy and access a link to watch the event on pages 12–13. September also saw our AGM taking place, which, while reflecting on the challenges of an unprecedented year, also celebrated our achievements (pages 14–15).
