What’s in this issue?
Climate change focus: COP26 may be over, but the real work starts now. Our Chief Executive, Sally Thomas, reflects on her experience of taking part in the summit and discusses how we can support tenants in the transition to net zero (Pages 6–7). SFHA Policy and Research Lead Cassandra Dove explores what the decisions taken at COP, and the Scottish Government’s net zero targets, mean for the social housing sector (Pages 8–9). We also learn more about how SFHA members are already tackling climate change by building new homes and improving existing stock (pages 10–16.)
Cover story: With the cost of living soaring, the work that housing associations and co-operatives do to tackle poverty has never been more important. Our cover story explores how housing providers, led by Ardenglen Housing Association, are tackling food inequality in Castlemilk with a community pantry which provides access to low-cost, nutritious food (pages 20–22).
Key housing policy updates: This edition also covers recent key policy developments, including the Scottish Government launching its consultation on the draft rented sector strategy (page 29) and the publication of Scotland’s annual homeless progress report (pages 18 and 19), focusing on what these mean for social landlords.
