Maryhill Housing Association (MHA), based in the north west of Glasgow, recently followed the success of its well-attended community Easter event with its 'School's Out Summer Session'.
With a wide range of activities on offer for local families, MHA's summer party featured live entertainment, arts and crafts, face painting, balloon modelling, soft play, a raffle, and activities for attendees with additional support needs.
The Summer Session is the second in a programme of seasonal events for the Association's customers, delivered as part of its Maryhill Helps brand, which provides services that give back to the local community. This initiative covers various support services, including community regeneration, financial support and tenancy sustainment. MHA's earlier 'Easter Eggstravaganza' marked the housing provider's first large-scale community event in several years, following a focus on smaller community events since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Both events have proven to be highly successful, with free tickets ‘selling out’ within days of being announced. Tenants fed back that they loved the activities and entertainment on offer, while also having the opportunity to speak with staff and find out more about the support available to them. They also noted that free events for the community have become rare in recent years and that it was nice to have somewhere families could go during the school holidays without having to spend a penny.
The Association is also planning Halloween and Christmas-themed community events for later in the year.
Rebecca Wilson, Chief Executive at Maryhill Housing, said: "We have been delighted by the overwhelmingly positive response to both of the events we've hosted this year. Seeing so many members of the local community enjoying themselves and the activities on offer is part of what Maryhill Helps is all about. We want to thank our customers for making both parties so successful and look forward to seeing everyone again at future events."
