We’re all aware of the challenges we continue to face in relation to rising energy prices. And Warmworks stands ready to support social landlords in assisting their tenants.
We can help you to implement energy efficiency improvements that can support your tenants to manage their energy bills. Having already developed a strong track record of partnering with social landlords, Warmworks is equipped to unlock the funding required and provide an expert service at a time when people need it most.
Warmworks, formed in 2015 is a joint venture partnership between Energy Saving Trust, Changeworks and Everwarm.
We’re committed to promoting affordable warmth, to increasing the energy efficiency of the homes and communities in which we work, and to consistently delivering a first-class service to the households and families that we support.
Warmworks has already helped almost 30,000 homes across Scotland to become warmer, healthier and more energy-efficient through our delivery of the Scottish Government’s national fuel poverty scheme, Warmer Homes Scotland. We’re now focused on playing our part in the long-term drive to reduce carbon emissions and to increase the availability of accessible, sustainable energy in a fair and responsible way.
As part of this goal, Warmworks has formed a strategic partnership with the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA) and Changeworks, with the aim of providing SFHA members with expertise on improving the energy efficiency of their housing stock, and on tackling fuel poverty where it exists. The way we aim to achieve this is by listening to SFHA members’ concerns and by offering technical expertise and knowledge from our on-the-ground programme delivery. We also continue to offer ad-hoc support to social housing providers, and we attend the SFHA’s quarterly Energy and Net Zero Forum to engage with SFHA members. This partnership has recently been renewed for a further three years after a positive first year of collaboration with members.
One such example of how Warmworks can support housing associations is our work with Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership (DGHP), where we have delivered an innovative Net Zero Heat Project, using grant funding provided by the Scottish Government. This project, which is in its final stages, involved the installation of air source heat pumps, solar panels and battery storage in 96 coal-fired and electrically-heated homes across the Dumfries and Galloway region. This is a programme that has supported DGHP’s aim to decarbonise its housing stock, while ensuring customers benefit from reduced energy bills. By providing hands-on support during the funding application process, Warmworks was able to secure 50% of the project's costs on DGHP’s behalf, allowing them to halve their capital outlay and maximise the number of households supported.
We have also recently delivered a Renewable Heat Project in Auchmithie, working together with Angus Housing Association. The project helped more than 30 homes to move away from electric storage heating, and to increase the amount of energy they generate and store in renewable technology. The project created positive outcomes for householders, with a report published earlier this year showing greatly reduced electricity charges. In some cases at the time, almost 90% of households’ electricity supply came from energy generated through solar panels, after energy saving improvements were installed.
One Angus householder who benefitted from the project, Mrs C from Auchmithie, said: “It’s absolutely life changing! I can’t even explain to you how much better it is compared to what I had before. The timers are great and when the heating comes on, I can feel the house heat up no problem.
“I am currently saving £150 a month, which has made a huge difference to me and my quality of life.”
I am Warmworks’ lead in our partnership with SFHA and Changeworks. With more than seven years’ experience in the energy efficiency and fuel poverty industry, I have previously supported housing associations in developing projects and preparing funding applications. I am keen to support SFHA members in establishing how they can meet the second Energy Efficiency Standard for Social Housing (EESSH2), identifying routes to decarbonise their housing stock and to tackle fuel poverty.
