Mould Growth Consultants has become a SFHA Sector Associate and are able to provide a comprehensive service to assist SFHA members in dealing with black mould problems arising from condensation in their properties.

MGC treatments and systems have been successfully specified and used throughout the UK for 56 years by housing associations, local authorities, managing agents, private landlords and homeowners. MGC products are the only materials in the M3 National Housing Federation, Schedule of Rates, for mould treatment.

Mould Growth Consultants is a unique organisation providing specialist treatments for solving problems of black mould and condensation infecting walls and ceiling inside flats and houses and external problems of moss, lichen and algae. MGC also supply specialist insulation for improving the energy efficiency of solid wall properties, hard to heat homes and alleviating the incidence of condensation. All MGC mould treatments, fungicidal additives and fungicidal paints are approved under the Control of Pesticides Regulations 1986 (as amended) by the Health and Safety Executive and listed in M3 National Housing Federation Schedule of Rates for mould treatment.

There is a three stage treatment for works departments and contractors, the first stage kills the surface mould and prevents it spreading throughout the property, secondly is the application of the fungicidal barrier which penetrates into the substrate killing the roots of the mould (hyphae) setting up a permanent barrier to prevent regermination. The final stage of the mould eradication system is decoration with Biocheck fungicidal coating which has been specifically formulated, incorporating a dry film biocide, for use in high-risk areas where there is severe humidity and condensation to provide long term protection. It is recommended that Silk is used in kitchens and bathrooms. Tests carried out by the Building Research Establishment show the long-term effectiveness of Biocheck in preventing the return of mould growth on surfaces prone to condensation and it will provide surface protection against regrowth for a minimum five years when applied in accordance with our recommendations. Biocheck is available in ten pastel shades and white in both Matt and Silk.

Condensation problems can be alleviated with Sempatap Thermal which is insulation on a roll, as quick and easy as wallpaper to apply. It makes walls and ceilings warmer which prevents moisture condensing on these surfaces. It is ideal for use on hard to heat homes, solid wall constructed ie. solid brick, solid stone, concrete, also on homes with dormer ceilings and mansard roofs and to reduce cold bridging on cantilever beams and ring beams and finlock gutters. Sempatap Thermal has been installed in 1,000s of flats and houses throughout the UK and tested by the National Physical Laboratory, figures from the Building Research Establishment show considerable energy savings. Once applied to the walls and ceiling it substantially reduces heat loss and lowers heating bills. Sempatap Thermal is also particularly useful on properties being refurbished and voids as a cost effect system to improve the thermal efficiency of the property and provide energy and cost savings for the tenants. There is an application DVD video available or this can be viewed on our website www.mgcltd.co.uk

In addition to the supply of products for the treatment of mould and condensation problems, MGC also provide seminars for Housing Associations and Local Authorities housing and maintenance staff on Condensation, Damp and Mould Growth to give a full understanding of how, where and why problems occur. There is toolbox training for works departments and contractors on the correct application of MGC materials. In addition, the Company provide a survey service for properties suffering with serious problems of mould growth.

Over the past five decades MGC have developed a wide range of treatments for dealing with several maintenance problems encountered by Housing Association staff and which have been successfully used throughout Scotland, please visit our website www.mgcltd.co.uk to view our comprehensive range of treatments.
