A major step forward for accessibility and inclusion in Scotland will be marked this summer with the launch of Scotland's first Disability Friendly Network, led by I Am Me Scotland in partnership with Whiteinch and Scotstoun Housing Association (WSHA).
The launch event is taking place at the Whiteinch Centre in Glasgow on Wednesday 16 July from 11AM-2PM.
This pioneering initiative aims to unite organisations, housing providers, and community leaders across Scotland to create environments where everyone—regardless of ability—feels safe, respected, and included.
James Ward, CEO of Whiteinch & Scotstoun Housing Association, reflected on the impact of the initiative: "I Am Me Scotland have provided us with access to training, resources and support to give us the confidence to create a truly inclusive community where every space welcomes everybody — where accessibility is not an afterthought, but the foundation of belonging which gives everyone the opportunity to thrive.”
This milestone is not only symbolic, but practical. It signals a cultural shift in how services are planned and delivered — from housing to community engagement — ensuring that disability-inclusive thinking becomes embedded in both policy and practice.
Event Highlights:
- Film Screening – Highlighting lived experiences and the importance of accessible communities
- Keynote Speakers – Featuring voices from disability advocacy and the housing sector
- Networking Lunch – A chance to connect, collaborate, and share best practices
The event will be held at The Whiteinch Centre, which, alongside WSHA, is proud to support this national initiative by hosting the launch. The venue also holds the distinction of being Scotland’s first officially recognised Disability Friendly premises.
Colleagues from across the Scottish Housing Sector are warmly invited to attend this landmark event, learn more about the network, and explore how they can contribute to a more inclusive Scotland.
Together, we can build a Scotland where everyone belongs.
