SFHA spoke to a range of media in an attempt to stop the housing cuts.
This week SFHA made a final attempt to convince Scottish Government not to go ahead with their almost £200 million cut to affordable housing supply. The day prior to the budget being voted on by MSPs, SFHA Chief Executive Sally Thomas spoke to the BBC and LBC, and was featured on the front page of the Daily Record, in The Times, The I, The Scotsman, Daily Express, The Herald and The Courier.
Speaking to the BBC following the budget passing its final stage, Sally said: “Today’s Budget plunges Scotland ever deeper into a housing crisis.
“The decision to slash nearly £200million from the affordable housing budget underlines that the Scottish Government’s support for social housing in Scotland is unravelling, and this will have real consequences for tackling poverty and homelessness across Scotland.
“The news will also serve as devastating news for the 250,000 people waiting on a social home and the 10,000 children growing up in temporary accommodation.
“Safe, warm, affordable housing is a basic human right. With this Budget, we are undermining that right.
The Deputy First Minister has underlined that should any further capital funding come to the Scottish Government from Westminster following the UK Government’s Spring statement in March, the affordable housing programme is the ‘top priority’.
