In a formal update to Parliament today, the Minister for Zero Carbon Buildings, Active Travel and Tenants' Rights confirmed that Scottish Government will expire the powers created by the Cost of Living (Tenant Protection) Act 2022 in relation to social sector rents from March 2023 - and there will be no rent cap or freeze in place for social landlords from that date. In outlining the reasons for this, the Minister outlined the close consultation with the social housing sector and the joint Statement of Intent reached between Scottish Government and SFHA members.

Despite what he noted as the distinct differences between the social and private rented sector, it was also noted that the moratorium on evictions is likely to continue. Confirmation of this will follow further parliamentary procedures later this month.
