Housing Minister Paul McLennan MSP joined with a group of SFHA members this week for a roundtable discussion on key policy areas for the social housing sector.

The session, chaired by SFHA Chief Executive Sally Thomas, comes ahead of the Programme for Government which will take place on Tuesday 5 September.

In her opening remarks, Sally Thomas spoke of the importance of delivering affordable homes, tackling poverty and inequality, and progressing towards net zero.

Hosted by West Granton Housing Co-operative, the meeting saw members of all sizes, from across the country, put their views across on the difficulties of building new homes in such a challenging financial environment, the need for certainty on regulation and the operating environment and the desire of housing associations to keep tackling poverty and supporting tenants.

Housing at Scotland’s Heart

Ahead of the Scottish Government announcing its annual plans as part of the Programme for Government, we’re asking that they prioritise three things:

  • Delivering the affordable homes we desperately need

  • Supporting social housing providers to tackle the climate emergency

  • Tackling poverty to make sure no social tenant ever has to choose between heating and eating
