The House of Commons Energy Security and Net Zero Committee has launched a new inquiry into energy bills for domestic customers. As part of this, SFHA will be submitting evidence on the impact high energy bills have on Scottish social housing tenants, including those in rural and remote locations.

Drawing on research published in the recent It's Your Life's Opportunities report, SFHA will be writing to the Committee to raise key concerns around fair billing, standing charges, pre-payment meters, and the need for more support for vulnerable tenants, for example, through the introduction of a social tariff.

The Committee has also asked for views on whether there should be a greater use of discounts on energy for those who live closer to energy infrastructure; something of particular relevance for Scottish tenants living in close proximity to wind farms and other forms of renewable generation.

If you are interested in feeding into SFHA's evidence submission, please email eharji@sfha.co.uk by Wednesday 31 January 2024. The inquiry's full terms of reference can be found at: https://committees.parliament.uk/call-for-evidence/3286/
