SFHA Universal Credit survey: latest results for 2021

The most recent report from SFHA’s ongoing Universal Credit survey has now been published, providing an update on the effects of Universal Credit and the pandemic on SFHA members and their tenants. 

The latest findings, which are based on data gathered between April and June 2021, continue to demonstrate ongoing challenges, including increased demand for welfare advice and support. Despite the easing of restrictions in recent months, many tenants are still facing hardship. Survey respondents also continue to highlight frustrations with the functionality of the Landlord Portal alongside difficulties in contacting Partnership Managers and other DWP staff. While emergency funds have been made available to support tenants during the pandemic, there are serious concerns about mounting financial pressures and the potential impacts of removing the £20 per week uplift to Universal Credit and the ending of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme. SFHA, along with National Housing Federation, Community Housing Cymru and Northern Ireland Federation of Housing Associations, has therefore called on the UK Government to urgently rethink its planned cut to the £20 Universal Credit uplift.
