Earlier this year, SFHA held an EDI roundtable with members to explore the opportunities and challenges connected with effective EDI policy and practice in our sector. Participants shared details of their organisation’s EDI journey and had productive discussions around the steps taken, strategies developed, resources used, and challenges encountered along those journeys.

Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) refers to principles and practices aimed at fostering an environment where every individual is valued and respected, regardless of personal characteristics such as age, disability, gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation. These principles are vital in both the workplace and the housing sector. EDI initiatives aim to provide equal opportunities and fair treatment for all employees and residents, promoting a culture that embraces diverse perspectives and allows everyone to thrive. In the housing sector, these initiatives ensure that services are accessible and fair for all residents.

Participants expressed interest in a space where they can continue those discussions and exchange resources for support. We have therefore set up an EDI Teams channel which is open to all members at any stage of EDI journey. SFHA will also be using this channel as a space to engage members on our own EDI journey and identify areas we can offer support. If you or any members of your organisation are interested in being part of this discussion please email jberry@sfha.co.uk and you will be added to the channel.
