Housing association tenants across Scotland are now living in warmer homes and enjoying lower bills, thanks to the success of four of renewable heat projects managed by Warmworks.

The projects – delivered in partnership with Langstane Housing Association, Waverley Housing, West of Scotland Housing Association, and Wheatley Homes South – saw a number of energy efficiency improvements installed in properties with the aim of increasing the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) and Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) ratings, lowering fuel poverty levels, and improving home comfort for tenants.

Energy improvements installed across the housing associations’ properties included high heat retention heaters, air source heat pumps, solar panels, and battery storage technology.

Results were positive across the board – with properties seeing jumps from EPC bands D and F to A and B, and SAP ratings rising by over 20 points, and one property even seeing a 57-point increase.

Claire McEleny, Property Manager at Langstane Housing Association, said: “We are delighted with the positive results of Renewable Project with Warmworks. Feedback from our tenants has been excellent, with many remarking to us that their homes feel much warmer, and they are also seeing savings on their energy bills.”

Ryan McGee, Senior Property Officer at Waverley Housing, said: “Waverley Housing has a strong working relationship with Warmworks, as demonstrated on this project where we worked together to deliver excellent outcomes for our tenants.”

Kevin Boyle, Senior Asset Officer at West of Scotland Housing Association, said: “We were delighted to partner with Warmworks on this project. The quality of work delivered was outstanding, and every property has benefitted from an improved EPC rating. This has resulted in warmer, more sustainable homes for our tenants.”

Philip Pironi, Repairs, Investment and Compliance Officer, Wheatley Homes South, said: “Having worked with Warmworks since 2018, we see them as a trusted partner and had full confidence in this project from the outset. We greatly appreciate Warmworks’ hands-on approach to delivery are looking forward to continuing our partnership in the future.”

Paul McGhee, Warmworks’ Managing Director, Local Delivery Division, said: “The results of these Net Zero Heat projects are nothing short of transformative. To see a property going from SAP bands C, D, or F to an A or B is remarkable and clearly shows the positive impact installing energy efficiency improvements in properties can have – providing warmer homes and lower bills for people and families.”

Warmworks delivers a range of energy efficiency contracts across the UK, aimed at helping people to better manage their energy costs and improving the energy efficiency of their home. It has been the Managing Agent of the Scottish Government’s national fuel poverty scheme, Warmer Homes Scotland, since 2015.
