In the Year of the United Nation's International Year of Co-operatives, Larke Adger (CEO of West Granton Housing Co-op) attended a reception for Co-operatives and Mutuals at 10 Downing Street on 9 June. The event was hosted by the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Jonathan Reynolds, alongside the Minister for Services, Small Businesses and Exports, Gareth Thomas.
Larke shared: “It is encouraging the UK Government now recognises the importance of the co-operative and mutuals sector in its manifesto pledge to double the size of the mutual co-operative sector.”
As only 1 of 7 Housing Co-operative Social Landlords left in Scotland, Larke was proud to share her concerns with the Minister, Gareth Thomas. WGHC celebrates its 35th Anniversary this year and this was a fitting event to attend, in recognition of what co-ops can achieve and how they can help change lives and build thriving, empowered communities.
