Leading social enterprise Changeworks has appointed two new members to its board. Selina Sagayam, Non-Executive Director and ESG Committee Chair of The Renewables Infrastructure Group and Sequoia Economic Infrastructure Income Fund, and Michael Covington, Chair of geoscience business Getech Group plc, will be instrumental in providing governance in support of Changeworks’ aim to decarbonise Scotland’s homes to tackle the climate emergency.
In April, Changeworks launched its ambitious strategy for 2025-30, which focuses on growing the impact of its services, UK-wide collaboration across sectors, and enabling diverse decarbonisation solutions. The two new appointees will work with the Changeworks board and leadership team to help achieve the strategic goal of supporting 180,000 households in installing and managing low-carbon energy efficiency measures by 2030, which from fabric improvements alone could save 3 tonnes CO2 per home per year.
Selina brings extensive global cross-sector experience of ESG and sustainability legal and regulatory advisory work, including appointment as the inaugural Chair of the ESG Committee of a FTSE250 alternatives renewable fund. With a background as a lawyer, she has advised a broad range of entities on a range of environmental and social issues. Selina is currently serving as Vice Chair for the charity Refuge.
Michael has over 30 years international cross-sector experience in investment, governance, and renewable energy technologies to support the decarbonisation of infrastructure and housing. He has advised boards at leading companies including John Menzies plc and Forth Ports plc and advised the Scottish anti-fuel poverty social enterprise iPower Action on a Community Owned Solar project in Angus.
Selina said: “I have a deep interest in reducing life-time carbon in a just and inclusive way and am excited to support Changeworks’ dynamic and innovative strategic plan. Changeworks’ commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion really resonated with me and aligns with my experience across both not-for-profit and for-profit boards, as well as my background in ESG and sustainability.”
Michael said: “Changeworks’ targeted, pragmatic approach to reducing carbon emissions and address fuel poverty in Scotland aligns closely with my professional background and my personal priorities. I'm passionate about driving innovative solutions for a just transition to net zero and unlocking the opportunities of a green
economy. I look forward to contributing to the Board to help enable real impact on the Energy Transition.”
