Have your say in how to unlock successful retrofit projects

There are significant barriers to housing associations developing a strong business case to retrofit homes with clean heat and energy efficiency installations. As discussed in the recent report by Scottish Futures Trust on Financing and funding the decarbonisation of Scotland’s social housing, gaps in reliable data and limited evidence from monitoring and evaluation have contributed to this challenge.

SFHA members involved in the planning and delivery of social housing retrofit projects whether from senior leadership, asset management or a finance perspective are invited to take part in a workshop which will explore this in more detail. Participants will consider the key questions to help unlock successful retrofit in the social housing sector:

  • What issues and challenges do social landlords have in getting business cases for retrofit approved?
  • What are the key data or information gaps?
  • How do publicly available data sets and modelled estimates on retrofit costs and energy savings compare with the sector's experiences?
  • What are realistic monitoring and evaluation activities? How might this vary across the sector while still ensuring consistency of approach?
  • What support would you find most helpful?

ClimateXChange (CXC), Scotland’s centre of expertise on climate change, has worked with academics who have looked at evidence to start to answer these questions. They are now collaborating with the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA) to engage further with the sector.

SFHA and CXC are looking for insights and experience to add to, test and challenge the initial research findings.

Following the event, SFHA will be developing a further resource for members based on the outcomes of the discussions. This is your chance to shape this important work and ensure your organisation has the support it needs going forward.
