Following the recent SFHA Digital & IT Network meeting, we are excited to announce the launch of the AI Champions Network - a collaborative initiative designed to accelerate responsible and effective AI adoption across our sector. This network will bring together individuals from member organisations for monthly or bi-monthly meetings focused on sharing best practice, exploring use cases, and addressing common challenges.

Why Now?
Our recent AI Readiness Tool Analysis revealed that while interest in AI is growing—particularly at executive and board level—most organisations are still in the “Emerging” stage of maturity. Out of 80 respondents, 84% fall into this category, with only 6% considered “Advanced”. This shows a strong appetite for learning and collaboration but also highlights gaps in governance and strategic integration.

What Will AI Champions Do?

  • Knowledge Sharing: Exchange insights on practical AI applications, from tools like Microsoft Copilot and ChatGPT to emerging platforms.
  • Best Practice Development: Promote ethical and sustainable AI adoption aligned with organisational values.
  • Community Support: Provide a space to discuss concerns, risks, and opportunities.
  • Policy & Strategy Exchange: Share lessons learned for creating AI policies and strategies that support compliance and innovation.
  • Leadership Engagement: Explore approaches to secure senior management and board buy-in—how to present the benefits, address risks, and overcome scepticism through evidence, case studies, and clear ROI.
  • Use Case Showcases: Highlight real-world examples that demonstrate impact and value.

The analysis shows that while data confidence and experimentation with tools are relatively strong, formal policies and strategies remain limited. By creating a network of AI Champions, we aim to bridge this gap—helping organisations move from curiosity to confident, strategic adoption.
