Battery storage technology as an enabler of a just transition

As Scotland moves towards a greener, more sustainable future, bodies like the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA) will have a key role in supporting the social housing sector as Registered Social Landlords (RSLs) seek to upgrade their housing stock with decarbonised forms of heating. Warmworks is delighted to be partnered with SFHA in supporting its members through this process; providing practical advice on how to form and deliver low carbon heating strategies, while ensuring that tenants are fully engaged.

As one of SFHA’s headline sponsors for its upcoming Energy Conference, we’ll be discussing the importance of a whole-house, multi-measure solution in making sure that no tenants are negatively impacted in the transition to net zero. With a specific focus on innovative battery storage technology as an example, we’ll address the role it can play in driving down tenant bills and safeguard tenants in their homes, as well as the potential it has to enable the wider industry change that’s needed to drive transformative action.

Fuel poor tenants need more support to ensure that they can benefit from innovative new technologies. The delivery of capital programmes involving new technologies requires the effective partnership of various organisations – RSLs, the supply chain, District Network Operators, and many more. With the right approach in place and a clear commitment to tenant engagement, the path is clear for battery technology to deliver positive outcomes and positive change for homes across Scotland.

There can be no transition unless there is a just transition, and we all have a part to play in bringing local communities with us in the journey to net zero.
