Colleagues from Fife Housing Group recently partnered with national charity AbilityNet to deliver two free ‘Click and connect’ digital confidence workshops.
The tech-themed events were held in Rosyth and Kirkcaldy, where tenants were invited to attend short presentations and enjoy one-to-one sessions with colleagues to explore specific challenges or topics they wanted to learn more about.
Subjects covered included creating an address and sending emails, using social media, online shopping, internet security and even how to set up an online business.
One of Fife Housing Group’s Income Maximisation Officers, Carolyn McAllister, was also on hand to guide tenants through claiming financial support online, covering areas such as Pension Credit, Universal Credit and using online calculators to identify what support might be available for them.
Feedback from those who attended was really positive, with one tenant getting in touch to say, “I attended the ‘Click and connect’ workshop this morning. I do not go out a lot, so this was good for me to connect with others. It was a pleasure to attend, friendly and very well run. I would like to say a big thank you to Carolyn and the other ladies who ran the group”.
The workshops were organised by Engagement Officer, Suzanne McKerrow, who said: “These smaller digital events are a fantastic opportunity for us to give our tenants individual support and a space to learn new skills they might not otherwise have the chance to develop. The main highlight for me is seeing people leave more confident and happy, knowing they’ve learnt something useful that might once have felt scary or too daunting to try. I hope we can do more of these in the future”.
Once the learning was done, it was time for some fun with fantastic tech-themed prizes up for grabs. Guests had the chance to win wireless earbuds, an Amazon Echo Dot or even a tablet.
The ‘Click and connect’ events were held as part of ‘Get Online Week’ and underline Fife Housing Group’s ongoing commitment to promoting digital inclusion and providing tech support to help tenants stay connected in an increasingly digital world.
Fife Housing Group hope to host more digital workshops in 2026, so be sure to follow them on Facebook (@fifehg) or visit their website for the latest news and events.
